Why is A2 milk only being used in Baby’s Only® Dairy and Baby’s Only® Dairy with DHA & ARA formulas?

The protein source in Baby’s Only® Dairy and Baby’s Only® Dairy with DHA & ARA formulas is nonfat dried cow’s milk and both contain 82% casein and 18% whey.  Nature’s One has chosen to use A2 milk in these two formulas because the regular organic milk we had been using contained both A1 beta casein and A2 beta casein.  Although organic milk has a higher A2 content than regular store bought non-organic milk, it still contain some A1 beta casein.  Baby’s Only® Dairy and Baby’s Only® Dairy with DHA & ARA now contain predominately A2 beta casein.

Our other dairy-based formulas contain specialty proteins.  Baby’s Only® Gentle Dairy Whey Protein Formula and Baby’s Only® Gentle Dairy Whey Protein with DHA & ARA Formula contain the specialty protein called whey protein concentrate along with some nonfat dried cow’s milk to have a whey to casein ratio similar to human milk: 60% whey and 40% casein.  The amount of A1 beta casein in those formulas is greatly reduced.  Baby’s Only® Sensitive with DHA & ARA Formula contains organic milk protein concentrate that is lactose free and is designed for children with lactose intolerance.  Even though these formulas do contain some A1 protein, organic dairy cows tend to already be higher in A2 beta casein when compared to conventional dairy herds.
