What is the meaning of Kosher?

The English term “kosher” refers to following Jewish Dietary Laws known as “Kashrut”. Kashrut means “fit to eat”. These laws are derived from the Bible known as the Torah and also from rabbinical interpretations. Although the Torah does not specify the rationale for these laws, the reasons for them are thought to be hygienic, practical or philosophical.
